Bankruptcy...it's not the end of the world!

Bankruptcy.....it's not the end of the world.
If you've declared bankruptcy, you know how damaging this is to your credit....we don't have to explain that.  But, there are credit cards you can qualify for.

bad credit credit cards

Having bankruptcy on your credit report is probably the worst item you can have listed.  But, it is possible to obtain a credit card.  You will find, however, that the only cards you will be able to obtain will typically have high fees....but they also have their benefits.  First, convenience.  Second, these companies report your activity to the credit bureaus, hence helping build/rebuild your credit score.

One of the KEY factors in obtaining a credit card is to ENSURE you apply for a card (or cards) from a REPUTABLE company.....specifically a company that reports your credit card activity to the major credit reporting bureaus - Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union.

As we stated earlier, DO NOT fall victim to the NUMEROUS credit card scams out there.  If you are offered a credit card - EVEN if they tell you it's a Visa/MasterCard, PLEASE check out the offer thoroughly.  Scam companies will do ANYTHING to get their hands on your money.  If you are asked to pay a fee - anywhere from $30 - $200 to obtain a card that will have a HIGH credit limit, DON'T DO IT.

A LEGITIMATE CREDIT CARD COMPANY WILL NOT OFFER ANYONE A CREDIT CARD WITH A HIGH CREDIT LIMIT WHEN THE PERSON HAS BANKRUPTCY OR A BAD CREDIT HISTORY SHOWING ON THEIR CREDIT REPORT.

REMEMBER....if it sounds too good to be true....it probably is!

What else can I do?

Here some simple things you can do to help in rebuilding your credit:

Get a copy of your credit report.
We said it once already, and we'll say it again: Get a copy of your credit report(s).  If you don't have a recent copy of your credit report, get one!  They're very cheap to get, as low as $10, and it really helps you see what your credit looks like and what good and bad items show up.

You can click here to get a copy of your credit report.  Not only can you get a copy of your credit report, but you can also get a copy of your credit score and receive an analysis of your credit history, which includes helpful tips to improving your credit score!

Your credit score is the KEY to your credit history.  Knowing your credit score will help you understand how bad/good your credit is....and will help you gauge how to improve your score.  By monitoring your credit score, you will be able to know if your score is improving.

Pay your bills on-time. And, if possible, pay more than the minimum payment due....even if it's only $5 or $10 more.

Try to take out small loans at a local bank....such as $300 for a new TV. or appliance.  Banks are impressed when you make an attempt to get your credit back on track, and most will take a chance with a small amount of money.

Typically, department store credit cards are easier to be accepted as a cardholder.  Try applying for a card from a store that you shop at often.

Open, at least, a checking account.  If possible, open a savings account, too.  There are so many banks (both online and offline) that offer checking accounts with no minimum balance.  A checking account is a good thing to have.

Last, remember.....you're not alone.  There are many people out there who have bad credit and are trying to rebuild their credit history like yourself.  It may seem tough at times, but your hard work WILL pay off!

We wish you the best.
