Having bankruptcy on your credit report is probably the worst item
you can have listed. But, it is possible to
obtain a credit card. You will find, however, that the only
cards you will be able to obtain will typically have high
fees....but they also have their benefits. First,
convenience. Second, these companies report your activity to
the credit bureaus, hence helping build/rebuild your credit score.
One of the KEY factors in
obtaining a credit card is to ENSURE you apply for a card (or
cards) from a
REPUTABLE company.....specifically a company that reports your
credit card activity to the major credit reporting bureaus -
Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union.
As we stated earlier, DO NOT fall
victim to the NUMEROUS credit card scams out there. If you
are offered a credit card - EVEN if they tell you it's a
Visa/MasterCard, PLEASE check out the offer thoroughly. Scam companies will do ANYTHING to get their hands on
your money. If you are asked to pay a fee - anywhere from
$30 - $200 to obtain a card that will have a HIGH credit limit,
DON'T DO IT.
A LEGITIMATE
CREDIT CARD COMPANY WILL NOT OFFER ANYONE A CREDIT CARD WITH A
HIGH CREDIT LIMIT WHEN THE PERSON HAS BANKRUPTCY OR A BAD CREDIT
HISTORY SHOWING ON THEIR CREDIT REPORT.
REMEMBER....if it sounds too good to be true....it probably is!
